Hey Siri, capture this

Say a task from the lock screen, the car or a watch. An iPhone Shortcut sends it to your private link, Pensova places it, and Siri reads back where it landed.

Settings has a card called Siri and Shortcuts with your private add link. Anything sent to that link becomes a task, read the same way as the box at the top of your tasks, placed on your calendar, with one sentence back saying where it landed.

Get the Shortcut

Watch the setup, 40 seconds, filmed on an iPhone.

On the iPhone, open Settings in Pensova, expand Siri and Shortcuts, and tap Get the Shortcut. Safari downloads the file: tap the download arrow at the top of Safari, tap the file, and choose Shortcuts. Tap Add Shortcut, and when it asks for your link, paste the one shown on that card. The first run asks twice, to use speech recognition and to send text to pensova.com: tap Allow, then Always Allow, and it never asks again. That is the whole setup. The Shortcut is named Capture this. Say “Hey Siri, capture this,” wait for the listening tone, then say the task. Say the two parts separately: said in one breath, words like “book” or “appointment” can make Siri create an event itself, on the phone’s calendar, instead of running the Shortcut. If you rename it, avoid book, schedule, add, event or reminder.

Or build it by hand

  1. Open the Shortcuts app on the iPhone, tap +, and name it Capture this. The name is what you say to Siri.
  2. Add Dictate Text, with Stop Listening set to After Pause.
  3. Add Get Contents of URL. Paste your link. Method POST, Request Body JSON, one field named text whose value is the Dictated Text variable.
  4. Add Get Dictionary Value for the key message, then Speak Text with that value.

Then say “Hey Siri, capture this,” wait for the tone, say the task, and listen. It works from the lock screen, CarPlay and an Apple Watch. On Android, any automation app that can send a web request does the same with the link.

What to know

  • Keep the link to yourself. It is the same key as your notes-by-email address; New address under Notes by email replaces both.
  • Each add counts as a capture, like the box in the app: Lite includes 50 a month, Pro has no limit.
  • A task without a length is added but not placed; give it a length in the app and it lands.
  • “Haircut Saturday, thirty minutes” lands on Saturday: a task you put on a weekend or an evening is treated as one that may be booked outside working hours. In Add task the same switch is Evenings and weekends too.
